The student union building was named by board resolution on January 22, 1966. "In grateful acknowledgement of the generous pledge by Mr. Homer C. Holland, class of 1913, a pledge which is expected to result ultimately in an unrestricted gift to the College of at least $465,000, be it resolved by the Board of Trustees that the College Union building bear the name of Homer C. Holland; and may it be resolved further that as much of Mr. Holland's gift as may be needed be used to defray the College's share of costs of constructing the College Union building."
